Hugo Contreras y Asociados was founded in 1977 by Hugo Contreras Urzúa and Andrés Aracena Santana for the purpose of providing expert tax and accounting assistance.

Before creating the firm, both founding partners were outstanding officers of the Internal Revenue Service of Chile and active co-authors of tax-related laws, circulars and official rulings that remain fully valid to this day. From the beginning, they focused on making the firm a place of professional excellence and leadership. Those qualities have been strengthened over these past 30 years, coupled with a strict code of ethics. The firm is a source of support to the Chilean Congress in designing and interpreting tax regulations and many members teach at important universities and institutes in the nation. Also of fundamental importance is its fertile and vast collection of original books, papers and articles on taxation that represent an ongoing contribution to the development of Chilean tax laws.

When attorneys joined our firm in 1994, the circle of integral legal, tax and accounting service became complete, holding firm to the objectives behind its formation.
